Corporation Committee Members

Under Section 6 of the Coimbatore City Muncipal Corporation Act 1981 and under Rule 3 of Tamil Nadu Muncipal Corporations constitution of Standing Committee Rules 1997 (issued in G.O.Ms.No.27 Muncipal Administration and Water Supply Department dated 7.2.1997) the Coimbatore Corporation Council in its Resolution No.22 dated 30.4.2002 has constituted the following six Standing Committees.

The Committee holds the office for the duration of the Council i.e. for 5 years.

As per the orders contained in G.O.Ms.No.27 Municipal Administration and Water Supply (Election) Department dated 7.2.97, G.O.No.88 Municipal Administration and Water Supply (Election) Department dated 8.3.2002 the Coimbatore Council in its Resolution No.111 dated 28.6.2002 has prescribed the functions for each committee.

Taxation And Finance Committee

The Taxation and Finance Committee is consisting of 15 members elected from among the Councilors of 72 wards of this Corporation on 17.11.2006. The Chairman of the Committee was elected on 18.11.2006 from among the members of the Committee.

The Chairman of the Committee will conduct the meeting at least twice in a month. Notice of the meeting shall be given to the members at least 3 clear days before the date of meeting.

The Function of the Committee have been notified as per Council resolution No.111 dated 28.6.2002. The function of the Committee are as detailed bellow :

  1. The Committee will accord Administrative sanction of the estimates exceeding 10 lakhs up to 15 lakhs.
  2. It will fix the rate for the levy of Property Tax, Profession Tax and Non Tax, Lease Items and control the financial commitments.
  3. The Committee will review the Budget estimates of the Corporation and recommend the Council for approval.
  4. The subject to be placed before the Council, should be routed through the Taxation and Finance Committee along with its decision. In the cases where there are no necessity for Council sanction, the decision on the subject will be taken by the Taxation and Finance Committee itself.

Works Committee

As per G.O.No.M.S.70 M.A.&W.S. department dated 10.06.2002, the Committee has empowered to sanction to give Contract acceptance for the works value from Rs.5.00 lakhs to Rs.10.00 lakhs and may review the works relates to Roads and drains, street light, purchase of vehicles including maintenance etc.,

Town Planning Committee

  • The proposals of land acquisition, --, exchange or transfer of land or any other worker relating to the development of Corporation land will be submitted to the Council for decissions through the Committee with the views of the Committee.
  • All machinery installation applications will be placed before the Committee for its approval for issue of installation licence.
  • The requests relating to the variations in the Master plan, Detailed development plan such as change of land use, -- of roads, -- reservation
  • On certain uses, etc will be placed before the Town Planning Committee for its views before placing these requests to the Council.

The Committee can recommend any other technical worker relates to Town Planning to the Council for its decision.

The functions of the Accounts Committee relates to the review of the Receipts and Charges of the Corporation,to review and approve the action taken reports on the Audit Reports and to approve the lease and annual auction of revenue items upto Rs.7.5 Lakhs.
